Google Gunning for Apple and Microsoft

From its origin as just another search engine running a distant second to Yahoo, Google has evolved into one of the largest, most powerful computing and technology companies on the planet. But it’s still just a company that offers web search and sells online ads, right? Wrong.

Google is about much more than search these days, but it’s a safe bet that the majority of the web surfing and computing public have no idea how many pies the company has its fingers in.

Its free web email client, Gmail, was the first true contender to pose a threat to Yahoo Mail or Hotmail. Gmail does away with the traditional folder storage structure in favor of virtual “labels” that can be applied to messages meeting defined criteria, making it easy to filter and sort through mail. Missiles and Bombs Aren’t Power, Knowledge Is

There’s been a lot of talk these days about World War III. Old Biblical prophecies are being dusted off and the talking-head “experts” are out in full force; both triggered, no doubt, by the current crop of crises in the Middle East. More Domestic Drilling Won’t Affect Prices

Anyone who believes that more domestic drilling will result in lower prices needs to do a bit of research.

First, the United States produces less than 2 percent of the world’s oil supply but consumes 25 percent. Even if we were to immediately tap into our known oil reserves as estimated by the Department of Energy and independent studies, there is simply not enough there – nor could it be processed fast enough – to dramatically increase the percentage of oil we supply to the world market. And even if we could, there is nothing to prevent OPEC from manipulating the market as they have done time and time again. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t Let Them Steal The Jesus We Know

While many on the political right say they’ve “found Jesus”, the story of the Jesus they’ve found is the one they’ve largely written themselves – the one in which a vengeful Jesus wields his cross as a sword and a shield. That’s not the Jesus I know.

I personally know many on the right who recognize this. They recognize that their party has been hijacked by those who’ve taken scissors to their Bibles and cut them so severely that their version now begins with the Old Testament and ends with Revelations, with little resembling Jesus’ teachings left in between.
