I didn't mean to imply I've been drawing a salary for 40 years, but I have been employed for nearly that long, taking my first "real" job with a company at the age of 16 in 1974. Salary-wise, I have bounced between hourly pay and fixed pay, but I would guess that I've drawn a salary of some type for at least half my career. Thanks for reading, and I'm a Star Trek fan, too. :-D

That is very odd. You say you were on salary for 40 years, yet you are not yet 60 years old.
When did you start receiving a salary? I think you overestimated the number of years that you have worked and received a salary when you said this "It took me nearly 40 years to realize this."

Live long and prosper.

Mr. Zeigler, I have read you off and on through the years. I didn't agree with much of what you wrote on A-4 of the paper. But it was always well researched and written. However I think you did best as a casual writer and not a serious commentator. Your column about discovering the true nature of WV after having gotten some ill-conceived notions before your move here was great.

As I was finishing this up, I heard a horrible squawking outside. Marvin had snared some type of bird, a really big one, and was carrying it into the woods behind the houses across the street. Talk about an ironic postscript.

I love this story....my cats very seldom bring me "gifts". Once in awhile I will see one, but I wonder if they are not happy just giving me love and purring affection. Vets say that when the cat leaves something (whether it be a corpse or a pile of poo) it is a gift for its owner, like a trophy to the king!!!!! HAHA I wonder. I know that the tree frogs in our neck of the woods make this horribly loud sound, it sounds like a huge frog and when you see it on the side of the house, its the size of dime....amazing, maybe that is their way of fighting the enemy.......i know we have a neighborhood bat that flies in our backyard at night eating its fill of bugs (mostly mosquitoes, thank goodness) and dipping into the pool for a drink of water, sometimes to the terror of visiting guests (ask Cheri)....
